Before the end
Jun. 16th, 2012 07:38 pmIt's with a heavy heart that Minako returns to her Tokyo, for possibly the last time. She has a lot to be accountable for.
The situation is so much worse. There's a media frenzy about the mysterious disappearance of Minako Aino, of course, but the far more important crisis is swelling. Every hospital is overflowing with energy-drain victims, the people on the streets are frightened, and the general mood is that doomsday will come any day now.
She approaches Artemis about the situation first. Her dear advisor is frantic, upset, and especially angry, but he reluctantly agrees to call the Sailor Senshi together.
Usagi expresses her fears first. Why did Minako-chan leave, why didn't she call them, and why isn't she helping them? The other girls nod, similarly worried, but Rei shares in Artemis's anger. How irresponsible, for a leader to run off like that!
Minako sees the bandages sticking out from their sleeves and winces. Yes, it's as bad as she though. Maybe she's made the wrong choice to go through with the surgery?
Ami seems to understand. She steps forward and rests a hand on Minako's arm. Perhaps she's gone through a similar thing. With her gentle prompting, the story comes out: she fell through the window as an accident (Usagi cut in at this point: "We beat that youma you were chasing and we didn't find you! Do you know how scary that is?") and she was stranded for a few days. She'd made her decision on the spur of the moment, a little selfishly: because having access to these worlds could mean that there would be a surgery.
Thankfully, there is: Minako has found a method of surgery with a higher success rate than their world's. There is a better chance that she'll survive, more than half. The girls are delighted to hear this news, naturally, but there's a catch---the window to this world will close before she is fully recovered, and she definitely won't be able to fight the Dark Kingdom anymore.
She expects to be chastised, yelled at, shamed...but the girls greet her with a hug instead. They have Luna now, Usagi's learning to control Serenity now, it will be all right. They don't like the idea of losing contact with her, but Usagi swears that knowing where Minako-chan is will help her control the princess's despair and wrath. They agree to let her go...on the condition that she comes to see them before the window closes.
With one last group hug for luck (that becomes another and another), Minako turns to go---but she leaves a small gift behind. Not a full album, but one quick song that's been in her heart for a while. It's clumsily recorded on her phone, for there was no time for a studio recording, but she promises a full version later.
I'm here, watching the same sky
When I see the starlight I feel your strength with me
Even though you're oh so far away
Your spirits are the courage I need
I can walk along this path without looking back
Because I know you'll always walk with me together hand in hand
